"We Are Not Alone" of his second letter.
Finally, after so many disappointing days, by the eighth, he became
elated. He quickly opened the e-mail from Jack Redman’s wife.
Dear Michael:
My name is Sara Redman and I am Dr. Redman’s wife. I am sorry it took so
long getting back to you, but there are some extenuating circumstances
that I think you should know about.
First off, I would like to thank you so much for showing such a great
deal of interest in my husband’s work. Just as importantly, I want to
congratulate you for doing so well in school. Keep up the excellent
grades and continue doing what you love. It is quite apparent that you
will one day enter the field of astrophysics and if Jack were able to,
he would personally encourage you to the fullest.
Unfortunately, my husband has been stricken with Alzheimer’s disease and
to make matters worse, it has advanced so rapidly, that he will more
than likely expire before the next two weeks are up. I brought him home
where he can be around the familiar things that he enjoyed and I believe
if he had the choice, he would rather pass on here.
If he was well, I know that he would want to meet with you, but
unfortunately that will be impossible. I do however have some of his
notebooks and memorabilia that I would like you to have. Please let me
know if you would like to have me mail the articles and to what address.
Warm regards,
Sara Redman
